I'm not just a candidate; I'm a parent of a 6th and 4th grader and actively involved in our schools and district through committee meetings and volunteer hours. My commitment to this community is personal, with my own children attending our high quality schools. I understand the hopes and concerns of fellow parents because I share them. Along with my husband, I am a small business owner who serves MISD families. I currently chair the MISD Clothes Closet that serves MISD families with donations of clothing, shoes, school supplies, and toiletries. I also support local boards, commissions, and other social and philanthropic groups connected to the city of Mansfield and MISD. Find out more in the Meet JC page of this website.
I am originally from Louisiana, and have lived in Missouri, Florida, and now Texas. My position as a professor of social work brought my family and me to Texas in May of 2018. I have been in MISD for almost 6 years.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Washington University in St. Louis; a Master of Social Work degree at the Florida State University; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Work from Louisiana State University.
With a background as a school social worker, I've been on the front lines, working with students, parents, educators, and leaders. This hands-on experience equips me with a unique understanding of problem solving needed within our schools. I am a licensed clinical social worker as well. I continue to stay abreast of current trends impacting students and staff in schools as part of my regular work as a research/teaching professor of social work at UT Arlington.
Mansfield ISD is a thriving district for many students and staff, but I have a vision that the excellence in teaching, learning, and experience can extend to each and every student and staff member that is part of our district. I have served our district as a volunteer and would love to serve as a visionary leader on the school board.
As one part of the team of 8 (board members and superintendent),
I am committed to being accessible and approachable. Your input matters, and I will actively seek and listen to your thoughts and concerns in the decision-making process, both now and after the election, even when we disagree.
Before I became a social work professor, I served as a school social worker in public schools. In this role I empowered students, families, teachers, and leaders in improving student academic outcomes by addressing the whole student experience. Not only do I understand the need to address both physical and mental well being in order for our students to succeed, but I also have implemented these types of interventions in my career.
